- The Shablamm card will definitely speed up your rendering but the DEC Alpha
- definitely seems to have the current edge in price performance ratio. Our
- Cobra 275 from Carrera Computer renders between 15 and 25 times the speed of
- a stock 4000 040, so the difference between it and an 030 2000 would be even
- greater. Systems start at $5300 for a motherboard, case and powersupply.
- Getting a Flyer just for animation is overkill. Unless you're doing major
- motion pictures or network television the Personal Animation Recorder from
- DPS will do just fine. It will play 24 bit animations in component video in
- real time. It comes in both Amiga and PC versions. Including dedicated HD
- you can expect to pay between $2000 and $2500. ScreamerNet is available for
- both MIPS and Alpha processors and is the only way to use LightWave on
- Windows NT machines until the standalone version of LightWave is
- released.List price is $1995 but discounts are available.
